What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is the treatment of a wide range of conditions and injuries to the body through the use of manual therapy, rehabilitation, exercise and electrotherapy. At Adelaide Physio our focus is to not just treat your presenting symptoms, we look for the underlying cause and then working together help you become fitter and healthier to enjoy the life you deserve.

What you should expect from your first visit.

Upon booking you will be asked to fill in a medical history form online, the more detail you provide the better as this form will be reviewed by our therapists prior to your arrival.

Following this, your physiotherapist may ask further questions to establish the root cause of your symptoms, and if there are contributing factors from your history or lifestyle.

Once happy with the subjective assessment your therapist will then undertake a comprehensive hands on examination. This allows them to determine the most appropriate treatment and rehabilitation for you.

At the end of the session you should have an understanding of your symptoms and contributing factors, have a time frame for recovery, and have a short or long term exercise program to do in your own time. The exercise program will complement the treatment you receive at the clinic.

Our therapists are more than happy to repeat or explain diagnosis differently if you don’t fully understand, please ask questions if you’re unsure. We are working together to get you back to a pain free movement and understanding your body is a key component in the journey.

Why attend a Chartered Physiotherapist rather than another therapist?

There are a number of reasons to choose a chartered physiotherapist over others.

To be registered as a “Chartered physiotherapist” in Ireland clinicians must complete a full time BSc degree at a national university, and also complete 1000+ hours of supervised clinical placement. This must be completed in order to become a member of the regulatory body for Physiotherapists in Ireland, the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists (ISCP).

Members of the ISCP are obliged to abide by the society’s rules of professional conduct, and code of ethics.

Although trained in many aspects of medical care many physiotherapists decide on an area in which to specialise. Our therapists have chosen the musculoskeletal and rehabilitation aspect and have undertaken postgraduate training in a variety of skills to enhance their patients experience. Some of the services are, but not limited to: spinal injuries; sports injuries and dry needling.

Please see our services section for further details.
